Drive Alive aims to reduce the number of deaths among local teen drivers.

This is not just a local problem, of course. It is a national, and in fact a global problem. Drive Alive addresses the problem locally in two ways:

  1. It provides extra promotional muscle for existing teen-driving-safety programs, coordinating efforts with schools, police agencies, hospitals and others who are already engaged in this life-saving mission. Drive Alive is working with all of these agencies to identify existing programs, to support them with extra promotion and to identify unmet needs.
  2. Drive Alive also assures a year-round emphasis on safe teen driving, because new teen drivers get their licenses every day.

Our key strategy is to increase the amount of communication between parents and teen drivers. Extensive research suggests that this is the most effective way to help teens avoid deadly crashes, because most teens say that their parents wield the most influence over their driving.

Mr. Taylor's legacy will be at work every time a young driver arrives home safely

In memory of Drive Alive co-founder Ralph Taylor - 1947-2009

The community lost a wonderful leader who helped make northeast Indiana a better place: Mr. Ralph Taylor.

As a deputy coroner, Mr. Taylor was alarmed by the rising number of teen deaths on local roads. He decided to do something about it. From his boundless energy and leadership, the Drive Alive was born.  Mr. Taylor loved his wife and family, his co-workers and friends, and his community. He loved the Drive Alive campaign and its impact on the safety of our youngest, most vulnerable drivers.  Drive Alive is one testament to his selfless devotion to our community. We lost an irreplaceable force for good. But his legacy will be at work every time a young driver gets behind the wheel of a car and arrives home safely.
